Thy Kingdom Come

The Lord taught us to pray for the Kingdom to come (Matthew 6:9-10), and yet said it was already in our midst (Luke 17:21). The religious leaders of Jesus' day wanted a time and a description of this kingdom--  they were looking for a magnificent leader (by earthly standards) to usher in a new reign for Israel.

I don't pretend to understand the mystery of the Kingdom that Jesus taught of, but I do know that Jesus is the King of that Kingdom. To illuminate what the Kingdom is like, he gave us three parables in Matthew 25. In each, He shows the eternal consequences for those who think they are are preparing properly, but miss the true point of the preparation.

For example, in the parable of the virgins, the ones who are unprepared and "foolish" had the door shut on them. In the parable of the talents, the person who does not return more than they had is called a "wicked and lazy servant" (Matthew 25:26). At the end of the chapter we learn that those that did not do for the "least of these" also faced eternal judgement.

A loving God passes eternal judgement?

Thy Kingdom Come

A loving God will shut the door?

 Thy will be done.

I'm anticipating your will, trying to get prepared, Lord. Help me to use wisdom and be a good steward over my talents and multiplying them. And let me not only see the least of these, but treat them as if they were you. Then, perhaps your Kingdom will come.
