Love letter #34: Love in our suffering

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.
Martin Luther King Jr., Strength to Love, 1963

Lord, may your may we learn to honor the place of challenge as a crucible for our character.  May we be the same at the core when we have little and when we have much, when we are out of our comfort zone, and when we are in a place of testing. And may we know we have strength to stay the course and even continue to grow, because you first loved us.

Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance;  perseverance, character; and character, hope.  And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. Romans 5:3-5
